Sailability

Oxford Sailing Club House

Oxford Sailability is a group of friends who sail together on Farmoor Reservoir from 6pm every Tuesday evening between the middle of April to the middle of October.

We have three classes of boat.

  • The Challenger, The macho boat, is a Trimaran, she has three hulls a central hull to sit in and two floats which prevent capsizing and in twenty four years we have never had one capsize. We have six or seven sailors who go on the racing circuit against other clubs. This usually entails a week end away. We often find accommodation with camping so we can all be together and help each other.
  • The Access Dinghy is a little eight foot boat with a very heavy centre plate this does not capsize either. Very light to sail, and is sailed by very very disabled people and small children. The Access goes to Open Meetings too, last year Jan Tregear and Tom Bucknell went to White Friars and Jan won the best Endeavour cup at Burghfield later in the Season.
  • Nigel’s Ark, a 16 ft flat bottom boat sailed with Lee boards. She can take eight people - a skipper, a crew, 2 wheel chairs and four others. Good for those who will never sail alone, but enjoy a social evening on the water in perfect wind and weather.

We always welcome new helpers, and disabled. Those who have felt they could never do anything like that, come and have a go. You may get really hooked like the rest of us.
