Oxford Sailing Club positively encourages youth and junior sailing. While our sister organistion, Oxford Youth Sail Training Centre, organises courses for young sailors, the club provides race training through our new group, the Puddle Pirates, which meets and sails on Tuesday evenings from 6pm.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a boat. You can use club boats (Hobie 405s, Lasers and Picos as well as Toppers) until you get your own. You can come three times but then have to join the club, but don’t worry, Youth membership is not expensive. Youth sailors are also welcome to join in with club racing on Wednesdays and Sundays (the Novice start) and Novice Race Days throughout the summer. In fact, as I write this, a young Topper sailor, Richard Matthews, leads the Novice series.
The next race day is Saturday May 17th. The club holds the NSSA championships on 24/25 May and the best Oxford sailor is also the Club Junior Champion The club also offers financial help, with grants of up to £500 available to those pursuing national and international success.
Email me for an application form if you are interested. We are also looking at visiting other local clubs to show them how good we are – more to come during the summer.
